Sweet CeCe’s Opening in Cool Springs

Sweet CeCe's in Cool Springs

Sweet CeCe's in Cool Springs

Sweet CeCe’s is opening in Cool Springs!

The well known locally owned frozen yogurt chain is opening at 3021 Mallory Lane in Franklin, TN, next door to Great Clips and Five Guys Burgers in Cool Springs.

An open house is scheduled for March 9th from 6-8pm at the Cool Springs Sweet CeCe’s.

The Cool Springs retail space Sweet CeCe’s is taking over is the same space formerly occupied by Ming’s Buffet. The retail center is currently managed by Brookside Properties. Ming’s Buffet was thought to reopen as Peking Palace but failed to do so, therefore making the space available. Peking Palace started but never finished building the space out and ultimately opened in a completely different retail center. Peking Palace ultimately opened in the Cool Springs Target center, adjacent to Honeybaked Ham and Plato’s Closet.

Sweet Cece’s currently has 16 locations with additional stores opening soon in Bowling Green KY, Farragut TN, Gallatin TN, Goodlettsville TN, Huntsville AL, Jackson TN, Louisville KY, Paducah KY, Spring Hill TN, Wake Forest and the Gulch area in Nashville next to the Turnip Truck grocery store.

CeCe Moore and husband Brian are the California natives who founded the Franklin, TN based frozen yogurt chain.  In just a couple years, Sweet CeCe’s has become a household name in Middle Tennessee in addition to expanding rapidly.

Sweet CeCe’s offers a number of tasty flavors, fresh fruit toppings and premium dry toppings.  The colors, decor and branding of Sweet CeCe’s is crisp and spot on.  Extra bonus points for being locally owned and operated.

Sweet CeCe’s frozen yogurt is also self serve.  Is that important?  Very.

Here is why:

Although the frozen yogurt craze is currently raging through Nashville and Middle Tennessee, “froyo” chains have long been popular and underway in California for the past several years – many of them very good.  Pinkberry and Red Mango are two of the most well known frozen yogurt chains, a result of multiple celebrities frequenting and being photographed at both frozen yogurt chains.  California has literally dozens of well known, branded frozen yogurt chains, located on almost every corner.

What is the real difference between all these frozen yogurt chains?  The product types are similar as they all have offer fresh fruit and premium dry toppings.  Most have a cool, hip interior woven with fresh, vibrant colors.

Aside from location, the critical difference between frozen yogurt brands is self serve versus full service.

We spoke with a Nashville commercial real estate expert who said self serve concepts are wiping the floor with the full service chains.  Keep in mind this is not an off the cuff opinion, but rather an observation based on the last several years of a very crowded and competitive frozen yogurt market in California.

Sweet CeCe’s is self serve.  Pinkberry is full service.

Nashville’s Hutton Hotel & 1808 Grille

Recently, my wife and I celebrated our 9th wedding anniversary which conveniently falls during the busiest time of year…between Christmas and New Year’s. As you can imagine, planning a romantic getaway during the holiday season requires some creativity, and this year was no different.

Hutton Hotel Lobby

Thanks to the blessing of two small children, we chose to stay close to home and booked a night in the four-star Hutton Hotel and made a reservation in the acclaimed 1808 Grille located on West End in Nashville.

We were greeted warmly in the Hutton Hotel lobby and led to the 1808 Grille to begin our evening. The hostess welcomed us and brought us past the bar area which was filled with the light roar of people enjoying themselves. Our table was situated perfectly to take in the surrounding scenery both inside and outside the restaurant. The design of the woods and wall colors inside were expertly combined to create a lovely, romantic, warm and elegant restaurant to say the least. Chef Charles Phillips created a masterpiece of a meal both in presentation and taste. For our first course we chose the Mu-Shu duck fried ravioli with hoisin dipping sauce, and enjoyed the delicious beginning to the meal. My entrée was the New York Strip with oreganata rub, shiitake & parsnip frites, and 1808 signature steak sauce. I know that a steak can sometimes be the expected, least risky choice at a gourmet restaurant, but I tend to disagree and was very interested to taste Chef Charles’ take on the meal. I was surprised at the simple presentation with the steak sauce in a metal measuring cup, but I understood the message when I took my first bite. The meat was so well seasoned and cooked to perfection that any fancier presentation would have distracted me from the experience. All of the spices, the taste of the meat, and the steak sauce combined to make an unforgettable approach to the NY strip.

My wife’s entrée was the 1808 seafood feature with scallops in a pumpkin chipotle puree. The plate was intricately decorated, daring her to take the first bite, thus disrupting the artwork of a true professional chef. The taste was worth what ever hesitation she may have had in doing so as she put her hand on mine and simply said, “you have to try this!” Our meal ended with bananas benet as they should be in the brown paper sack and banana dipping sauce and apple blackberry cobbler which continued the theme of top-notch dining. This certainly wasn’t the common hotel restaurant that I have seen in the past. Instead I was wondering if the hotel was going to be able to match the restaurant for once. In my opinion, 1808 Grille is one of the finest dining experiences Nashville has to offer.

Hutton Hotel King Suite

Hutton Hotel King Suite

The King Suite did not disappoint with a stylish sitting room, a plush king sized bed with down comforter and pillows, and a stunning view of the Nashville skyline. The contemporary design of the bathroom was very well done and the Kohler digital rain shower was an unexpected extra. The room came with complimentary newspaper delivered to the doorstep, free wi-fi, and numerous room service options.

In all, the Hutton Hotel and 1808 Grille fit perfectly into the time slot between Christmas and New Years to make a memorable 9th anniversary. The experience lived up to our expectations and I would highly recommend this to anyone looking for a close to home romantic getaway.

Area Businesses Weather Plans

Franklin TN Snow Storm

Franklin TN Snow Storm

The snow and inch thick layer of ice Nashville was hit with in the last few days has definitely slowed things down here in Cool Springs.

If you have great insurance and are desperate for food, drink or other necessities, below we have generated a short summary of Cool Springs restaurants and businesses with their plans to stay open or close today due to the weather in Nashville.

CoolSprings.com recommends you be smart and don’t.  It’s very dangerous and no one in Franklin or Brentwood TN knows how to drive in this weather.  Accidents are everywhere as you’ll see on TV or live if you get out there.

The weather also makes us wish the new McEwen Town Center Whole Foods was finished, so we could live over there and walk to get groceries in this weather.  Unfortunately for as much retail we have in Cool Springs, so little of it is walkable for most of the surrounding residential communities.  Not saying its all to far to walk form now, but it just wasn’t designed to be pedestrian friendly.  As a result, few people do.  McEwen Town Center will be a excellent addition to the Cool Springs area, providing an environment that does not exist here yet.
