Sweet CeCe’s Opening in Cool Springs

Sweet CeCe's in Cool Springs

Sweet CeCe's in Cool Springs

Sweet CeCe’s is opening in Cool Springs!

The well known locally owned frozen yogurt chain is opening at 3021 Mallory Lane in Franklin, TN, next door to Great Clips and Five Guys Burgers in Cool Springs.

An open house is scheduled for March 9th from 6-8pm at the Cool Springs Sweet CeCe’s.

The Cool Springs retail space Sweet CeCe’s is taking over is the same space formerly occupied by Ming’s Buffet. The retail center is currently managed by Brookside Properties. Ming’s Buffet was thought to reopen as Peking Palace but failed to do so, therefore making the space available. Peking Palace started but never finished building the space out and ultimately opened in a completely different retail center. Peking Palace ultimately opened in the Cool Springs Target center, adjacent to Honeybaked Ham and Plato’s Closet.

Sweet Cece’s currently has 16 locations with additional stores opening soon in Bowling Green KY, Farragut TN, Gallatin TN, Goodlettsville TN, Huntsville AL, Jackson TN, Louisville KY, Paducah KY, Spring Hill TN, Wake Forest and the Gulch area in Nashville next to the Turnip Truck grocery store.

CeCe Moore and husband Brian are the California natives who founded the Franklin, TN based frozen yogurt chain.  In just a couple years, Sweet CeCe’s has become a household name in Middle Tennessee in addition to expanding rapidly.

Sweet CeCe's frozen yogurt

Sweet CeCe's frozen yogurt

Sweet CeCe’s offers a number of tasty flavors, fresh fruit toppings and premium dry toppings.  The colors, decor and branding of Sweet CeCe’s is crisp and spot on.  Extra bonus points for being locally owned and operated.

Sweet CeCe’s frozen yogurt is also self serve.  Is that important?  Very.

Here is why:

Although the frozen yogurt craze is currently raging through Nashville and Middle Tennessee, “froyo” chains have long been popular and underway in California for the past several years – many of them very good.  Pinkberry and Red Mango are two of the most well known frozen yogurt chains, a result of multiple celebrities frequenting and being photographed at both frozen yogurt chains.  California has literally dozens of well known, branded frozen yogurt chains, located on almost every corner.

What is the real difference between all these frozen yogurt chains?  The product types are similar as they all have offer fresh fruit and premium dry toppings.  Most have a cool, hip interior woven with fresh, vibrant colors.

Aside from location, the critical difference between frozen yogurt brands is self serve versus full service.

We spoke with a Nashville commercial real estate expert who said self serve concepts are wiping the floor with the full service chains.  Keep in mind this is not an off the cuff opinion, but rather an observation based on the last several years of a very crowded and competitive frozen yogurt market in California.

Sweet CeCe’s is self serve.  Pinkberry is full service.

NISSAN Whistleblower Arrested

NISSAN whistle blower Sharyn Bovat's mugshot

NISSAN whistle blower Sharyn Bovat's mugshot

Sharyn Bovat, a NISSAN whistleblower, is speaking to CoolSprings.com after she was jailed by Franklin police last Wednesday for what she has described as “an act of retaliation after whistle blowing against a Southern Good ole Boy Network”.

Bovat, a former executive relocation consultant for five major companies, managed the moves of several top NISSAN executives to Middle Tennessee. Bovat was asked by HR to relocate NISSAN board member Carlos Tavares, the first Executive Vice President & NISSAN Board of Directors member to reside outside of Japan. During the relocation process Mr. Tavares discovered more than he anticipated from the person assigned to ease his transition to life in America.

NISSAN North America is located in Middle Tennessee, known as the buckle of the Bible belt. Headquartered in the city of Franklin, which Bovat describes the community as a “who knows who” society. Employees at NISSAN knew she had access to Tavares and told her of discrimination, corruption, & wasteful spending of taxpayer money.

The State of Tennessee spent millions relocating NISSAN to the Cool Springs area of Williamson County. A large portion of those relocation expenses were paid by TN taxpayers. Several times Bovat inquired if “certain spending was OK”. In 2008 when asked by a French NISSAN Vice President to find a spa for oxygen facials, she documented the abusive spending of taxpayer money.

While she was asking NISSAN employees on the executive floor about spending issues, Bovat was told “skirts don’t speak”.

Whistleblower Sharyn Bovay

Whistleblower Sharyn Bovay

As the daughter of a former mayor-activist-lobbyist, she was taken by her mother in the late 60’s to marches to fight for women’s rights. After hearing those words in 2009 at a public company that was taking American taxpayer money, Bovat became upset and told Tavares.

When asked to describe the heart of the problem in Middle Tennessee, Bovat quickly points out a southern “Good ole boy” Network that permeated HR at the NISSAN North American HQ. Women in management declined 30% according to NISSAN’s own internal statistics. Bovat has said it was known inside HQ that “Good ole boys” were strategically replacing women with their unqualified buddies.”

In February 2009 Bovat learned the “Good ole boys” in HR had placed individuals in every division to “protect their own” during cutbacks caused by the economic crisis. She also discovered HR had planned to fire the Californians who relocated with NISSAN in 2006-2007 first. Disgusted with that policy Bovat remarked, “It was not fair; they uprooted their families to move to Middle Tennessee, only to be discriminated against”. Bovat told Carlos Tavares in March 2009, who stopped it from materializing.

Nissan's Carlos Tavares

After she “saved the Californians”, NISSAN’s HR Director called Bovat into four meetings. She sensed HR wanted to “get rid of her”, although she knew Tavares appreciated her efficiency and honesty. During one of those meetings, the Director of NISSAN HR asked Bovat to do something unethical to prove she was a team player. She refused. Bovat knew if she wanted to work for NISSAN she would have to comply. Bovat told Tavares, who then referred her to the HR Director’s supervisor Mark Stout, the head of NISSAN HR. In a later meeting on the executive floor, Mark Stout offered Bovat money to be silent. Instead of “cashing in” she told Tavares about HR being unethical.

Starting June 4 2009, Bovat has documented and stated the allegations on her public blog. Since then, Bovat says she has been harassed and slandered by NISSAN HR. Bovat wanted to keep quiet and expressed to Carlos Tavares that she wanted to return to work at NISSAN. Several months ago, Tavares emailed her to relay that things were proceeding.

But with the continued harassment, Bovat wrote an open letter on her blog to the ACLU, in an effort to locate an attorney to help with her civil rights and whistle blowing issues.

Looking for resolution, Bovat went to NISSAN HQ on July 7 2010, in hopes of receiving a time frame for positive change. When Bovat entered the lobby, she was instead greeted by the same people she has fought against for the last year.

Minutes later, several Franklin police cruisers arrived and officers filled the NISSAN HQ lobby, arresting Bovat for criminal trespassing. Bovat says,

“Rob from Nissan legal bullied the Franklin police into arresting me, using a year old, outdated photocopy of a cease and desist originally intended to intimidate me and to shut down my blog”.

Bovat has stated on her blog that she’ll take it down when Nissan’s Carlos Tavares asks her. When Bovat heard from Tavares several months he did not tell her to take down the blog. All the allegations Bovat has made, have been visible on her public blog for the past year.

Bovat says that fact alone give her credibility. Statistics from her blog show tens of thousands of visitors from six continents.

It seems like this skirt has spoken and people are now listening.

Nashville Nonstop To Panama City?

Southwest Airlines is likely to select Nashville as one of two cities to have daily nonstop flights to the new Panama City airport.  Baltimore is rumored to be the other city chosen by Southwest Airlines.

This is great news for all the people in Middle Tennessee who vacation in Destin, Seaside or Panama City Florida.  The 8 hour drive to Destin, Panama City, or Seaside FL, through swamp land, is not very exciting.  The thought of a Southwest Airlines flight less than an hour long is very appealing.

Many people in Cool Springs and Nashville own rental property or second homes and this will no doubt add value to their investment.  The difference between a 16 hour round trip drive and 2 hour round trip flight is huge, especially when just going down for the weekend.  Not to mention Southwest is usually on time and their rates are very competitive, not a bad thing.

This is excellent news for Nashville since many of the flights to Panama city will also be directed through our own Nashville International Airport.  Good exposure for Cool Springs and the surrounding areas!

Cool Springs Tornado Watch

Cool Springs Tornado Watch

Cool Springs Tornado Watch

Be careful out there!  We have some rough Cool Springs weather coming this afternoon.  The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 5pm today for 31 counties in Middle Tennessee.  Included in the watch is Williamson County which covers Cool Springs, Franklin, and Brentwood TN.  I haven’t heard the tornado siren go off yet, but it has started raining and the sky is looking a little angry.  Say a prayer we dont have any tornados ripping through Nashville today.

Here is video just taken of the breaking weather:

Cool Springs Job Fair A Success

Early Bird Gets the Worm!

Early bird gets the worm!  The first Cool Springs Job News Nashville career fair was held today at the Marriott in Franklin TN.  Williamson County jobs were highlighted at this event and there were many Cool Springs jobs available.  Past events have been held at LP Field in downtown Nashville with around two thousand attending quarterly.  Almost a thousand people attended and the employers represented were diverse and hiring en masse.  Jobs News Nashville did a great job coordinating and everyone I talked to including vendors and attendees felt it was a great event.

Debbie Campa, the Vice President of Human Resources for Shoney’s, said they are hiring for all of Middle Tennessee.  It was her first time at this career fair and when asked what kind of people Shoney’s is looking for she said, “We’re just looking for good people to help us serve good food!”

Lamont Walton, a job seeker from Madison TN, felt finding a job in this environment was very different from the last time we was out of work about 10 years ago.  He said, “The most challenging thing is how competitive things are, with so many other people looking for jobs.  It makes me more aware of my deficiencies being compared against so many other people.”                `

The Director of Human Resources for Wendy’s Dale Bruner, was very pleased with the turn out.  He didn’t have any Cool Springs jobs open but does have several positions open at the Wendy’s in downtown Nashville and also in the Nipper’s Corners area.  All I could think about when we meet was the Wendy’s Coffee Toffee Twisted Frosty.  If you haven’t tried one, I highly recommend them.

Bill McBryar, Training Director for Daily’s Convenience Stores, has been to every career fair held by Job News Nashville for the past three years.  He felt Daily’s has been very successful at every event.  I found this to be true when I was told before the fair had ended, Bill had five people starting the next day!

Daily’s is hiring for retail positions in Middle Tennessee including managers, assistant managers and cashiers.  Their stores reach as far as Huntsville, Pulaski, Knoxville and Dickson.  When I asked Bill what kind for employee Daily’s looks for he said, “We like folks with convenient store or some retail experience, an outgoing personality and also interested in providing a clean and inviting experience at Daily’s.  Personality is very important.”

Quin Corbridge, out of work for the last 6 months, was disappointed there weren’t more upper level management jobs available.  He mentioned the hesitation by employers to hire right now unless there was an absolute need.  Even when here is a need, he said most positions are being filled from within the ranks.  Quin said, “The key is knowing the right people and networking quickly before the job is filled, especially in Williamson County”.

Pamela Herrera, a recruiter for Verizon Wireless, is working to fill 50 open positions in financial services at the Verizon Wireless in Franklin.  She said, “We want to find people interested in a career, not just a job.  Verizon spends $22,000 total in training and benefits on every employee during the first 12 months, before any return is realized.”  Pamela mentioned a stable work history; preferably a 2 year degree and most importantly a willingness to learn and care for the customer being things Verizon looks for in new hires.  A great opportunity for those interested in Verizon financial services jobs in Cool Springs.  Pamela said, “ The Alltel acquisition has caused a massive surge in demand due to the increase in customer base.  Verizon is working hard to hire reps to service the demand from the Alltel deal.”

HHGregg had general managers from two stores at the Cool Springs Career Fair.  John Keys was from the HHGregg Mt Juliet store and Jason Martin from the HHGregg Cool Springs Franklin store.  John has been with the company 6 years and seemed to really love and appreciate working for the HHGregg Company.

I spoke with John at length over lunch and enjoyed learning a lot about HHGregg.

The company has always been and is to this day, family owned and family run.  HHGregg is also debt free, growing conservatively and choosing to expand carefully.  The average associate goes through 200 hours of training a year.  HHGregg also guarantees the absolute lowest price.  The employees are trained and encouraged to get on the computer to check competitors websites to make sure. Wow!  They also guarantee the price for 30 days in case it’s lowered soon after.  I’ll definitely be stopping at the HHGregg in Cool Springs soon!

The event was outstanding and I’m really looking forward to the next Job News Nashville Career Fair focusing on Cool Springs Jobs.
