Heath Albritton New Office in Cool Springs

Heath Albritton, Sales Manager and Sr. Loan Consultant with WR Starkey Mortgage, is opening a new Cool Springs office at 9175 Carothers Parkway, Franklin TN 37067.  The new office is located between Starbucks and Keller Williams.

Heath’s current office is located in the Keller Williams Real Estate office next door.  WR Starkey Mortgage’s  new office is expected to be open in mid January.  The only delay right now is waiting for Franklin codes to approve the build out.

Five people will work in the new WR Starkey Mortgage office.  In addition to Heath, the office will also have a junior loan officer, processor, closer and a loan assistant.

Heath has done several mortgages for people in our office (my sister being one of them).  Everyone had a great experience and would recommend him without question.  The most frequent comment we heard was, “Heath communicates extremely well with and is very efficient at keeping the client is the loop as the loan progresses.  I would definitely refer friends and family to Heath.”

If you see Heath around Cool Springs, make sure to congratulate him on the new Cool Springs WR Starkey Mortgage office opening soon.

Keith Urban in Cool Springs

Any true fans of Keith Urban or his music were found in Cool Springs TN today!  The free acoustic concert Keith Urban performed at the Verizon Wireless on Mallory Lane in Franklin was outstanding.  Parking was not easy although there was plenty within a short walking distance.

Woody’s Smokes and Brews did not allow people to park on their property.  A different tact was taken by Academy Sports and Outdoors next door (1915 Mallory Lane in Franklin TN) who graciously allowed people to park on their property.  Show your appreciation to Academy Sports, buy some stuff there and thank them for helping out their neighbor Verizon Wireless.

Around a thousand people attended the 2pm event in Cool Springs.  The police and Verizon Wireless employees did a great job keeping things running smooth.  The event started a little late and Keith ended up playing five songs, although only three songs had been planned.  The questions people asked Keith were mostly song requests.  It was nice because it allowed for people more people to interact with the music star and personalized the appearance for everyone who attended.

The weather almost didn’t cooperate, as a huge front was moving in from the West and the show finished just before the downpour started.  Fortunately no one was rained on, although several flashes of lightening appeared close to the end.  The Verizon Wireless store roped off the parking lot and kept all the press at the front of the property, allowing for an excellent vantage point to observe from.

Thanks to both Verizon Wireless and Keith Urban, for a much appreciated free afternoon concert in Cool Springs.

Keith Urban’s Set List

1.  I’m In
2.  Only You Can Love Me This Way
3.  Kiss a Girl – requested by Emily from Brentwood Academy
4.  Walkin’ The Country – requested by and played with Grant, a 12 year old boy from Lipscomb Elementary in Brentwood
5.  I Want To Cry Tonight - requested by Amelia

Circuit City Space Divided

The former Cool Springs Circuit City store, located at 545 Cool Springs Blvd., Franklin TN 37067, is being divided in half for two new tenants.  The tenants moving into this newly created space are Off Broadway Shoes and The Tile ShopOff Broadway Shoes is relocating from their former space behind Cozymel’s and Amerigo at 1648 Westgate Circle, Brentwood TN 37027.  The Tile Shop is new to the area and a home improvement store focusing on tile and natural stone.  The Tile Shop is expected to be moving in sometime during February.  Broadway Shoes move-in date is also believed to be after the first of the year.

Here are photos of the former Cool Springs Circuit City being split in half for the two retailers:

Off Broadway Shoes Relocating

Off Broadway Shoes near the Cool Springs Galleria will be moving soon to the old Circuit City location at 545 Cool Springs Blvd, Franklin TN 37067.  The old Circuit City space is being split in half for two new tenants, Off Broadway Shoes and The Tile Shop.

Off Broadway Shoes’ current location is a 6,000 square foot single tenant building in located at 1648 Westgate Circle, Brentwood TN 37027.  The Westgate development is home to multiple Class A office buildings, Lexus Dealership, CoolSprings.com headquarters, Acura Dealership, Shogun Japanese restaurant, Sportsmans Grille, Amerigo and Coxymel’s Tex-Mex restaurant.

The building Off Broadway Shoes is located in has been for sale for a long time.  David Crabtree with Brookside Properties is rumored to have recently contracted to purchase the building and will market it for lease when Off Broadway Shoes vacates.  Although the building has cross parking with Cozymel’s next door, the parking ratio is probably not good enough to accommodate a restaurant.

Durego Nashville’s Neiman Marcus?

We’ve been very curious about what is happening with “Durego – The Luxury Source”, a special event space business going into the old Cool Springs Copeland’s restaurant space on Westgate Circle, behind Amerigo and Cozymel’s. A CoolSprings.com reader recently submitted photos of Durego in progress, so we feel obligated to do an update.

The initial info we received, was that Durego is supposed to be a very high end event or meeting space, filled with luxury exotic toys.  There is nothing like it in Cool Springs or Nashville.

I emailed back in August to see what was happening and heard back almost immediately from Durego Jevon, the owner.  When I spoke with Durego, he said build out and finishing of the building had been purposely slowed down.  They were timing the opening with the recovery of our economy and real estate market coming back.

Their website looks like they spent some money and portrays the “Durego” business as three things; an exotic motors dealer, showroom & event space and purveyor of luxury accessories.

Regarding the exotic motors part (cars, planes and motorcycles), it doesn’t look like this will be a full line authorized dealership of particular brands, but rather a reseller of luxury cars.  I imagine there could be a local market for for the rental of cars pictured such as Aston Martin, Bentley, Ferrari, Lamborghini, Maserati and Porsche but its unclear whether that is Durego’s intention.

The six cars displayed on their website are:

2007 Aston Martin DB9 Volante Coupe 4,400 miles
2008 Bentley Azure Coupe 23,624 miles
2007 Ferrari 599 GTB Fiorano Coupe 1,576 miles
2008 Lamborghini Gallardo 2,777 miles
2008 Maserati Quattroporte 1,428 miles
2008 Porsche 911 Carrera C2S 1,576 miles

A few fancy chromed out motorcycles by the Wild West Motor Company, called Gunfire, Dragoon and the Durego Custom Series are also pictured on the website.

The airplane section lists several manufacturers including Gulfstream, Diamond, Sierra, Lear, Hawker, Cirrus and Cessna, although he only airplane shown in detail is the “Cirrus Vision”. The information listed about the Cirrus Vision sells it as a single engine owner flown personal jet.  Wikipedia says it is a “very light jet aircraft” and in December 2006 Cirrus announced the plane would be the “slowest, lowest and cheapest jet available”.  With full fuel, the total payload the plane can carry is 400 lbs. That does not seem like much.

The brochure specifically bills it as “Cockpit technology optimized for single pilot operation”.  I was looking for “will land on Old Hickory Lake” but did not find that anywhere…lol.  To be honest it looks like a cool sexy little plane, just small enough to fit inside the new Durego showroom (or your garage). Now you can say the wing of a plane was your coaster at the Christmas party held at Durego!

The luxury accessories are made up of high end watches, purses and jewlery.  The watches represented include Audemars Piguet, Hublot, Patek Philippe, Raymond Weil, Ulysse Nardin and Jaeger LeCoultre.  The brands of purses shown on their website are Dolce & Gabbana, Fendi, Gucci, Hermes, Prada and Versace.  The jewelery page shows rings, earrings, necklaces and bracelets.  There are no brand names of jewlers although the photographs show large enviable colored stones.

We’re kind of disappointed there aren’t any furs or cigars shown.

So Durego’s concept seems to be a meeting and event space filled with the most expensive representations of high end luxury possible.  If you drink enough and brought your checkbook, you have the option of taking home one of the showroom pieces.  A car, eaerrings, watch, ring or a plane.  This may sound unrealistic to many, but I think there is a market here, albeit a very niche one.

If we can just get it open.

The Durego “About Us” page is very strong, listing no less than 5 Vanderbilt MBAs.

The elite team opening and running Durego includes:

Durego Jevon Lewis – Vanderbilt University’s Owen Graduate School of Management MBA
Darrell Lewis- Owner of Import/Domestric Auto
Tami Fassinger – Vanderbilt Owen School Executive Programs Associate Dean & MBA
Jim Jirjis M.D.- Vanderbilt MBA, Assistant Chief Medical Officer Primary Care & Chief Infomatics Officer Vanderbilt University Medical Center
Edward DeMesa- Vanderbilt undergrauate and graduate school alum
Tim Pereira – Vanderbilt MBA & local small business owner
J.T. McCraw – Development consultant
Dale Leo – Vanderbilt MBA & business consultant
Charles H. Fant – Vanderbilt alum and sales professional
Richard Lyons- Owner of Roberts & Lyons Chevrolet Buick Pontiac GMC dealership in Lewisburg, TN)

Durego is located in the former Copeland’s restaurant space in Cool Springs at 1649 Westgate Circle, Brentwood TN 37027.

Vanderbilt Opens in Cool Springs

Dr. Allen Kent with the new Vanderbilt Neurosurgery Cool Springs Clinic

Dr. Allen Kent with the new Cool Springs Vanderbilt Neurosurgery Clinic

Vanderbilt University Medical Center has just announced the opening of Vanderbilt Neurosurgery Cool Springs Clinic, a new facility located at 2009 Mallory Lane in Franklin, TN.  Allen Kent Sills Jr., M.D., associate professor of Neurological Surgery in Vanderbilt’s Department of Neurological Surgery, who directs the Neurosurgery Community Practice, will see patients five days a week at the new clinic, and will also treat inpatients at Williamson Medical Center.

Sills’ patient care emphasis will be on those patients with general neurological problems of the brain, spine and peripheral nerves. He has a specialty emphasis in treating athletes with neurological problems, including sports-related concussion.  Care for athletes will complement services already provided by other nearby Vanderbilt programs — Vanderbilt Orthopaedics of Cool Springs and Vanderbilt Bone and Joint of Franklin.

“Our goal is to provide the best neurological surgery services to those who live in and south of Williamson County,” Sills said.  “By providing these and other services in this community, we hope to make Vanderbilt Neurosurgery more convenient to those in the area while showing our commitment to this part of Middle Tennessee.”

Sills, a 1990 graduate of The Johns Hopkins University School of Medicine, completed his internship, residency and a fellowship in neuro-oncology at The Johns Hopkins Hospital and The John Hopkins Bayview Medical Center.  In 1997, he relocated to Memphis where he served as the chief of Neurosurgery at the Veterans Administration Medical Center and later as director of Neurosurgery at Methodist University Hospital.

Appointments may be scheduled by calling 615-778-2265.

Dr. Sills, welcome to Cool Springs TN!

Cool Springs Tornado Watch

Cool Springs Tornado Watch

Cool Springs Tornado Watch

Be careful out there!  We have some rough Cool Springs weather coming this afternoon.  The National Weather Service has issued a tornado watch until 5pm today for 31 counties in Middle Tennessee.  Included in the watch is Williamson County which covers Cool Springs, Franklin, and Brentwood TN.  I haven’t heard the tornado siren go off yet, but it has started raining and the sky is looking a little angry.  Say a prayer we dont have any tornados ripping through Nashville today.

Here is video just taken of the breaking weather:

Bev Burger Letter to Residents

Here is a letter from Franklin Alderman Beverly Burger to Franklin TN residents, submitted by a Cool Springs homeowner:

“There is really good news for McEwen.

Just over a week ago the Aldermen ranked the Capital Investment Projects (CIP).

 Here are the Top Three:

Hillsboro Road
Columbia Ave.
McEwen Phase III

Tonight we voted to adopt the 2010-2014 Capital Investment Projects list that we (the Aldermen) re-evaluated this past month.  This included scenario # Seven which included these three top projects.

So what does that mean? It means we will go out to bid very soon for the McEwen Phase III construction.  That should happen before the end of the year and then it should get started before the end of the year as well- I hope.  It is definitely the next one to fund since it is shovel ready for construction.

The developer (The Principals Group) at the corner of Cool Springs and Oxford Glen and McEwen, has done a lot of work already for us in the preparation of that area where the road will come into the roundabout near the fire station.  So that should help in the timeline of it all.  This project is shovel ready and as I said, it got adopted tonight as one of the top three that we will be doing.  Let’s just hope it is like the Columbia Ave. bid and comes back in a lot lower. If it does then we can knock out additional projects and move along with (Phase IV of McEwen) a lot sooner.  I am going to push for the bid and then the funding these next two months.  Remember the Aldermen placed it in the top three and the vote tonight says we will fund it.

In addition, Columbia Ave.’s bid for $2.6 M was approved tonight so that approval is finished and they will begin work in the next few weeks.  By the way, this was originally estimated to be close to $5M and it came back to us at $2.6 M.  Amazing.

Plus we think we are going to get some money from Build America Bonds (for re-development areas), which could reduce it about another $1Million, bringing it in at around $1.6 Million.  This is unheard of, so this was a no-brainer to fund.  It WILL not take away the opportunity for McEwen and in fact this low bid and Build America Bonds will allow us to free up more dollars to put into McEwen.  Construction costs are really low right now and so are our interest rates.  We have to strike as many projects as possible right NOW while the iron is hot. This area (Columbia Ave.) is about re-development and we have much going on there that will bring back revenues to the city.  I am always looking for ways to bring additional revenues to the city as that helps us to move ahead on other projects like McEwen and it also helps us to NOT raise taxes.

Hillsboro Road is listed as number one and it was approved tonight in the top three as well.  So it should be coming to us for voting on funding the Design work.  We have flooding in that area and rotted piping underground, etc.  We have got to get the design work done, then the right of way and then it will go out to bid for construction.  This will take some years, but we will look first to fund the design work.

NOW WHAT YOU ALL WANT TO HEAR!!!

McEwen Phase IV.

Well miracles do happen.  THANKS to your communications and my lobbying the Aldermen and having them drive down the road (again and again) it all has paid off.  McEwen Phase IV from Oxford Glen /Cool Springs at McEwen to Wilson Pike went from item number #47 on the CIP list to #7. That is a miracle!!  We do have the preliminary design done which does not amount to a whole lot at this point, but it is done. So what’s next? We need to see about funding the Design.  I suspect once the design gets funded (there is no time line at this point, but it is # 7 now instead of #47) it will take about 18 months to finish the design as it has tohave retaining walls, etc. along the way.

If I’m voted in for a second term (by-the-way, people have got to get out to vote and vote EARLY) then I will be in the face, so to speak, of the Aldermen and keep it before them and get the design funded as soon as possible.  If our top CIP #1 and # 3 come back in with lower bids (like 30% or more lower) then we will be able to move McEwen Phase IV up even quicker.

I was working with our City Administrator to put into place a process to challenge the current manner and progression of these projects (including McEwen Phase IV) and develop a comprehensive plan that addresses road projects from an “integrated perspective” rather than the current “piecemeal” approach.  Meaning, to put McEwen IV on a time line both on the schedule calendar and funding calendars.  That way we know we have committed to it on our CIP list and committed to fund each phase as it is ready rather than leaving it sit on a list.  With this vote tonight on the top three projects that mechanism is now in place and this approach will be used on McEwen Phase IV as it was used on these first three projects.

Just remember that just because a road project is listed in the #7 slot does not mean we have to do # 4, 5, and 6 before it.  Assuming I am re-elected I WILL BE pushing this forward at each and ever meeting.  I want to be able to get the design worked funded and get that going.  I will know better how this will all play out after we get the bids back for the McEwen Phase III.

Now to be totally honest, I have a lot of work to do, but it will only happen if I am in for another term.  A new person will have to go back to the drawing board for sure.  Plus I have worked to build working relationships with the other Aldermen, the Mayor and the City staff and Administration as well as people at the State level.  You all can count on me to keep this aggressively moving.  But be ready as we will have more meetings coming up and I fully intend to keep my website up and re-arrange it once elections are over so I can address and up- date you all on Ward 1 issues and projects.  McEwen will be the highlighted issue on that site.

I will also establish a means to post what is coming up on our agenda so people in Ward 1 can read about the issues, become fully informed and then give me their votes on various issues.  I am excited about this as it will be a great communications tool for Ward 1 citizens and a better way for me to hear from my constituents.

Hope this gives you all the info you need on the McEwen up-date and encourages you all.  In the mean time, I am still looking for ways to help improve McEwen Phase IV while we all still have to drive on it.  Any suggestions would be greatly appreciated. Just email me at Bev@AldermanBurger.com

One last think I want to say is voting is coming up.  It is hard to get people out to Vote in these Ward elections because that’s all that is on the ballot.  So each and every vote counts.  Two elections ago two candidates tied.  PLEASE go vote, I ask for your Vote and I ask that you VOTE EARLY.  I am fully committed to getting McEwen Phase III done and getting McEwen Phase IV moved through the process and then built to completion as soon as possible and NOT five, six or seven years down the road!

I am happy to come and meet with the residents of Avalon whenever you like and if you would like me to come and share more information before or after the election then just let me know where and when. I am always available by email or phone.

Please read my website at www.AldermanBurger.com and contact me should you have any questions or concerns.

Thanks and I am glad I could share with you the good news about McEwen Drive.  I would have liked to have seen McEwen Drive (Phase III and IV) as #1 and # 3, on the list but after McEwen Phase IV being in the 47th place and getting moved up into our top 10 ( at #7) I am thrilled.  When we are asked to re-adjust or re-rank them again next year, I am hoping McEwen IV gets moved up even further on the list.  I am very hopeful as now we actually have a reasonable slot number we can work with and move forward.

Thanks,

Bev
