The following are wines we will be tasting as reviewed in Her Magazine this month!

Frisk Prickly Riesling, Australia, 2010
This wine definitely makes you feel frisky! The prickly part comes from a light effervescence of bubbles injected into the bottle, enhancing the luscious sweetness and floral notes. This Riesling is not too sweet or too syrupy due to the balance of acidity that the citrus flavors bring. Find it around $12.

Trapiche Broquel Malbec, Argentina, 2009
Malbec is becoming a star. It has all the body of a cabernet without any chalkiness left over on your palate. While it’s easily enjoyed by itself, Malbec stands up to food really well. With aromas of black fruit jam and liqueur and an elegant touch of smoke, vanilla and chocolate, this wine has a sweet attack, full-bodied tannins with a long, pleasant finish. Ideal to combine with pasta and mushroom sauce, grilled red meats, stews and cheeses. Available for around $16.

Qupe Syrah, Central Coast, California, 2009
This is a classic Central Coast Syrah exhibiting cherry, spice, and everything nice. Syrah is typically pretty smooth, and a great middle of the road red wine that is sure to be a crowd pleaser. This one has lingering chocolate overtones that make it a nice partner for sweets. Find it around $15.

Zaphy Cabernet, Mendoza, Argentina, 2010
Zaphy means “root” or “origin” in the language of the Huarpes, indigenous inhabitants of the Mendoza. The wine itself imparts a beautiful tapestry of spice, blackberry and plum and will pair nicely with a burger hot off the grill on a crisp fall evening. Find it at about $14.

Continue our 1st Wednesday of every month wine tasting and join us at the Wxyz Bar at Aloft Hotel in Cool Springs!

There will be unlimited pours of 4 fantastic wines along with food to nosh on from 5:30 – 7:30pm. We love the Wxyz bar at Aloft hotel, it’s modern, sleek & a fun place to hang out. There’s also a great patio area to enjoy the warm weather!  Did you know the pool at Aloft Hotel has underwater speakers?

Featured Wines Include:

Apothic Red – This is a masterfully blended wine, weaving Zinfandel, Syrah and Merlot.  The result is a rich and full-bodied wine that leaves flavors of vanilla, mocha and deep red cherry on the palate.

Gazela Vinho Verde – The delicious Portuguese white made from many varietals is a great find!  It’s the perfect summer white and is slightly sweet, effervescent and will tickle your tongue.

Join Blue Jean Wines at Aloft Hotel on Wednesday, April 6, for a wine tasting in Cool Springs!

Blue Jean Wines is a local, fast growing wine tasting and social organization offering monthly wine tastings in the Nashville area.  This particular event is jointly hosted by Blue Jean Wines and Aloft Hotel in Cool Springs.

Wine Tasting at Aloft Hotel

There was a great wine tasting at Aloft Hotel in Cool Springs this evening featuring selections from Eos Estate Winery.  Jeffrey Hopmayer, owner of Sapphire Brands, the parent company of Eos Estate Winery in Paso Robles California, attended the tasting.

Jeff, previously from Chicago, is a Brentwood Tennessee resident and has been in the wine and liquor business for 8 years, ever since he retired from corporate America.  His company Sapphire Brands owns multiple wineries in California and Italy, a vodka distillery in London and a tequila plant in Mexico.  When I asked Jeff if this was a family business, he smiled and said  “Nope! I have young children and am enjoying the business myself”

The featured wines with descriptions by John Nichols with Lipman Brothers ( local distributor of Eos Estate wines)

Eos Sauvignon Blanc Classically aromatic, passion fruit and lemongrass predominate.  A refreshing burst of citrus and white peach in the mouth, crisp and clean with a refreshing finish.

Eos Chardonnay The senses are caressed with Macintosh apples and light toasty oak balanced by subtle hints of pineapple and banana.  Flavors of pineapple and mago jump across the palate with intermittent citrus and green apple.  The acidity balanced by the oak seems to have a flavor that lasts forever.

Eos Cabernet Sauvignon Aromas of blueberries, cassis and flowers with hints of cedar, anise and sage.   In the mount, a balanced wine with bright fruits up front, slowly relinquishing to the structural components of leather, dried earth, tobacco and sage.  A medium length finish.

Eos Petite Sirah Dark plumb, raspberry, black cherry and blueberry introduce this wine to the sense with hints of licorice, smoke and leather.  The bright fruit of raspberry introduces the pallet to the darker fruit characters of briery blackberries, cassis and blueberry, leading into rich velvety textures.  A wonderful medium length finish rounds out the wine.

Aloft Hotel Coming to Cool Springs

The trendy hotel chain “Aloft” (W Hotel is the parent company) is coming soon to Cool Springs Tennessee.  Here is the story as reported by the Nashville Business Journal:

“Interstate Hotels and Resorts, the nation’s largest independent operator of full- and select-service hotels, has opened the region’s first Aloft hotel in Cool Springs.

The 143-room hotel is owned by a joint venture of Interstate (NYSE: IHR) and the John Buck Co. of Chicago, which developed the property.

It’s the partnership’s second Aloft hotel, but the Nashville market’s first.

Aloft is a Starwood Hotels and Resorts Worldwide Inc. (NYSE:HOT) select-service brand designed to appeal to a younger generation of business and leisure travelers. It boasts of accessible technology, style and social atmosphere.

With the addition of the Cool Springs property, there are 18 Aloft hotels in 12 states, Montreal, Canada, and Beijing, China. Two more are scheduled to open by year’s end.

“Aloft has been one of the most high profile brand launches in hotel industry history, and based on guest response, is exactly what today’s savvy travelers are looking for: user-friendly technology, urban-inspired design that encourages guest interaction, great value,” said Paul Novak, Buck’s managing director of its hospitality division.”
