What do you get when you cross the health care and Nashvegas? Strat5, a local band made up of Healthways employees that make up the garage band. They are excited to be headed to the Fortune Battle of the Corporate Bands contest held at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland Ohio.
Strat5 got its start in 2005 when a small group of colleagues at Healthways, a Nashville-based health management organization, discovered their mutual love for music and started discussing plans to form a band. The company’s CEO, Ben Leedle, Jr., soon learned of the plans and commissioned the band for Healthways’ annual company meeting.
Since that inaugural performance, Strat5 has performed at numerous events including school picnics and corporate ribbon cutting ceremonies; at local venues like the General Jackson showboat, the Sommet Center and the Schermerhorn Symphony Center; and represents Music City at Healthways-sponsored events in Austin, TX and Washington, DC. Strat5 was honored last year with an invitation to compete as finalists in the Fortune 500 Battle of the Corporate Bands at the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in Cleveland.
Playing primarily Top-40 from a number of different genres, over the past few years the band has also added originals written by some of its members. Working with a core group of electric and acoustic guitars, bass, drums, keyboards, and vocals, Start5 has enjoyed incorporating the talents of additional colleagues on harmonica, mandolin, banjo and horns rounding out the band’s rock-and-roll, country and soul-influenced sounds, and giving them tremendous flexibility to adapt to particular conditions or performance requirements.
By adopting more traditional careers, the members of Strat5 have dodged many of the risks inherent in the music industry in Nashville while continuing to enjoy their rock-and-roll dreams.
Wish them luck as they head to Cleveland and represent Music City at the Fortune Battle of the Corporate Bands!
