For the 2nd year running, firemen in Franklin Tennessee plan on making Christmas a little better for local Williamson County children in need, with their annual “Franklin Fire Fighters Toy and Clothes Drive”.

Supporting the toy and clothes drive will take 30 minutes out of your day, feel good for months and make a real difference in a childs Christmas here in Williamson County.

Each drop off location has a “gift fire hydrant” on display, as seen below, similar to an angel tree.

The gift hydrant is filled with tags containing each child’s first name, age, sex and gift request.  Stop in and pick a gift tag, then drop off the item/s at one of the drop off locations listed below.  The hydrants were made by David Cloud at Station 2 with help from the guys on B shift.

Last year 40 children had a better Christmas as a result of the Franklin Fire Fighters hard work and generous donations from the public.  This year they’ve estimated around 300 children will be helped from 900 tags, up from 200 tags last year.

The public is encouraged to stop by any Franklin Fire Station and select a tag from the toy drive hydrants at participating locations with a child’s specific gift request on it.  New, unwrapped gifts should be returned with request cards to the stations by December 16.

In addition to toys, the firefighters try to furnish children with some essentials that many take for granted, such as underclothes, clothing, coats, mittens, hats and hand sanitizer.  The goal is to provide new toys and new clothes for boys and girls in Williamson County.  Items not from gift tags are donated to Graceworks.

“Support from the community has been unbelievable,” said Franklin Firefighter Clay Mackey, one of the event organizers. “People don’t realize that some areas of Franklin are not as fortunate as others.  As firemen we see everything.  A lot of people aren’t going to ask for help, but you see it and know they need it.”

Franklin Fire Fighters Clay Mackey and David Edge emphasized the group effort put forth by so many people working behind the scenes to make the toy and clothing drive a success.

More than 250 children from the Boys and Girls Club of Franklin/Williamson County, the Head Start Community Child Care Center, and more are expected to attend the annual Christmas party on December 18th at the Fourth Avenue Church of Christ, where the gifts will be distributed.

Sponsors for the event include Community First Bank & Trust in Cool Springs, Harris Teeter, Starbucks, Logan’s, Chili’s and Papa John’s.  The event is supported by the City of Franklin, Franklin Fire Department and Fire Fighters Association.

All donations go to boys and girls in Williamson County Tennessee.
