Brooks Brothers Closing to Accommodate New Apple Store

Brooks Brothers at the Cool Springs Galleria is closing to make room for the incoming 13,840 square foot Apple Store.

We spoke with a Brooks Brothers employee who said the last day of business will be Jan. 27, 2012.

CoolSPrings.com asked why Brooks Brothers was leaving and the response was, “It’s just a real estate business decision.  We are opening at Opry Mills and the mall needed room for the new 13,840 square foot Apple Store in Cool Springs.  The Apple Store is taking over both the Abercrombie & Fitch and Brooks Brothers spaces”.

Combining the two spaces together will create a 85 foot wide storefront for the Apple Store.

On average Apple generates $5,626 per square foot in retail sales, the highest of any U.S retail chain.

Although we are excited about the huge Apple Store on the way, we are sad to see Brooks Brothers leave.  We hope Brooks Brothers reopens at the Cool Springs Galleria at some point in the future.

Below is a letter just received by Brooks Brothers customers, notifying them of the upcoming closing:

Jeff Fisher Helps Teens in Crash on Brentwood’s Holly Tree Gap

Coach Jeff Fisher

Coach Jeff Fisher

Newly appointed St. Louis Rams Head Coach Jeff Fisher was first person to arrive on the scene to help Brentwood teens in a serious car accident on Holly Tree Gap Rd. this past Sunday evening.

Within minutes of the crash, CoolSprings.com reported a loss of power in neighborhoods around Scales Elementary and a large number of emergency, fire and police vehicles racing East on Holly Tree Gap.

After posting to Facebook, we learned there had been a serious car crash on Holly Tree Gap where the vehicle had apparently hit a pole, knocking out power in the area.

The 13 year old and 17 year old passengers were driving a Nissan Altima when they lost control, hitting an electric pole and flipping the car over.  The 13 year old suffered critical wounds and was rushed to Vanderbilt Children’s Hospital.  He is listed now in critical but stable condition at Vanderbilt.  The 17 year old was treated and released.

Brentwood police said there were no sign of drugs or alcohol and the car accident continues to be under investigation.

Jeff Fisher was driving home to a residence in Brentwood when the crash happened.  Realizing they were injured, Fisher stayed until emergency personal arrived on the scene.

Thanks Coach Fisher!

13,000 SF Apple Store Opening at Cool Springs Galleria

CoolSprings.com has learned that a new Apple Store is taking over both the Brooks Brothers AND Abercrombie & Fitch space for a 13,000 square foot store.  It will be a huge Apple Store!

The last day of business for Abercrombie & Fitch at the Cool Springs Galleria will be Jan. 21, 2012.

The last day of business for Brooks Brothers at the Cool Springs Galleria will be Jan. 27, 2012.

CoolSprings.com was told by a several employees from different stores inside the mall that CBL decided not to renew Abercrombie & Fitch’s lease in favor of a new tenant, although unconfirmed by mall management.

Abercrombie Kids store located upstairs told CoolSprings.com, “No we are not closing, only the adult store downstairs and I think their last day is Saturday”.

Apple fanboys rejoice!  The new tenant is an Apple Store.  As in a real, genuine Apple Store.

We found out several months ago about an Apple Store coming to Cool Springs.  At the time CoolSprings.com learned it would be on the first floor near Macy’s.  We did not know exactly which tenant would be replaced, although we were told that tenant was not aware they would be leaving soon.  One source told CoolSprings.com that Apple will take possession in April and open Sept, although it seems like it may be sooner.  Although not confirmed by Apple or the Cool Springs Galleria, a source very much in the know told CoolSprings.com with certainty that a real Apple Store is coming to the mall.

Anyone who has visited the Apple Store at the Mall of Green Hills on a weekend knows that it is so busy there is frequently a line out front.  The kind of line you have to stand in and wait before someone exits the store, to prevent the total person count inside from exceeding the maximum number allowed per Nashville fire code. It’s that busy. Needless to say a second Apple Store in Nashville is needed and Cool Springs is the only other appropriate submarket for it to be located.

We are not aware of any changes happening at the Abercrombie Kids store, located upstairs in the Cool Springs mall.

With great sadness, this also means we’ll no longer have shirtless male greeters in Cool Springs on Black Friday.

There will soon only be 2 remaining Abercrombie & Fitch stores in the Nashville area, located in the Mall at Green Hills and Rivergate Mall.

It remains to be seen what will happen with the existing MacAuthority in the Cool Springs Galleria.  MacAuthority recently opened another location at 2525 West End near the new Vanderbilt Bookstore, in between Bread & Company and Moe’s.  It will be interesting to see if MacAuthority stays or leaves  on their own accord when their lease expires or if Apple & CBL will even allow them to stay in the mall now that a genuine Apple Store is opening up.

Of course all of this is unconfirmed by Apple or CBL so it may be just rainbows and unicorns.

CoolSprings.com spoke with Blake, who works at Stoney River and is also the mayor of Stoney River on Foursquare.

Blake said:

“The first people started camping out early Saturday morning.  Last night they came out and told the crowd there would be a game involved.  Everyone was given a wing basket as a game card. Then every hour or so, an employee would pop out of a random door and hand out a set number of sauce stickers to whoever arrived at that door first.”

J. Crew replacing Eddie Bauer at Cool Springs Galleria

Employees of Eddie Bauer at the Cool Springs Galleria have informed CoolSprings.com that mall management has elected not to renew their lease in favor of new incoming tenant J. Crew.

The employees of Eddie Bauer CoolSprings.com spoke with were not happy will the malls decision to replace them with J. Crew.

This Eddie Bauer was reportedly one of the top 10 performing stores in the entire country.

With the Cool Springs Eddie Bauer closing, there are no longer any full line Eddie Bauer stores in the Nashville area.  The only remaining presence Eddie Bauer will have in the area is an outlet store located 230 Outlet Village Blvd., Lebanon, TN 37090.

We expect the addition of a new J. Crew store to the Cool Springs Galleria will be warmly received.

This new J. Crew store at the Cool Springs Galleria will be the second in Nashville, the first is located at the Mall of Green Hills.

Lipscomb Opening Campus in Cool Springs

Lipscomb in Cool Springs

Lipscomb in Cool Springs

Lipscomb University will launch its first satellite campus in early 2012 as it opens a new facility in the Cool Springs area of Williamson County. University officials recently finalized a lease on a nearly 5,000-square-foot facility located at Cool Springs Boulevard and Aspen Grove Drive in the Thoroughbred Village III Professional Plaza.

The facility, which will be called “Spark,” is being designed to create an environment for innovative ideas in learning, business, faith and the community. A technology-rich facility, Spark will offer flexible space and innovative delivery systems for Lipscomb graduate, adult learning and certificate students as well as for corporations and community organizations in the area who are looking for a meeting venue that encourages fresh thinking.

“Spark represents the next generation of growth for the university as well as progressive thinking about education space. Spark is part of the university’s larger strategy to take innovative education and professional development opportunities to prospective participants in surrounding areas, offering them access to Lipscomb’s mission and purpose without them having to be physically located on our Nashville campus in Green Hills,” said Lipscomb President L. Randolph Lowry. “It will enable Lipscomb to expand its academic programming and offer a convenient option that echoes the programming on the Nashville campus to residents and businesses in the Williamson County area as well. This site allows us to promote and grow our existing programs into a new market and provide a much-needed service to this region.”

Last year, the College of Education began offering graduate education classes at Blackman High School in Murfreesboro and at Battle Ground Academy in Franklin and has tripled enrollment in those cohorts in just two years. The SPARK facility will be the first university-operated satellite campus.

Spark will be led by John Lowry, assistant professor of business at Lipscomb University, who will manage the day-to-day operations of the facility. Lowry, who helped establish Lipscomb’s recent programs in executive education, corporate training and an MBA fellowship program, will also continue to work on special projects for Lipscomb’s College of Business.

Lipscomb's John Lowry

Lipscomb's John Lowry

“Our research has found that the demographics of Williamson County and the surrounding area make it one of the best counties in the country to offer graduate education. Fifty-two percent of people living in the vicinity of Spark have college degrees and tend to be younger and more affluent than average. Williamson County leaders are excited about Lipscomb University being a part of their community and partnering with us as we seek to serve its residents just as we have the Nashville community. This facility also benefits from the university’s experience in hosting numerous successful community and corporate events on Lipscomb’s main campus as it brings this new and innovative meeting space to Williamson County,” said John Lowry.

Williamson County leadership said they look forward to Lipscomb University’s presence in the county.

“Lipscomb’s presence here brings more opportunities for Williamson County residents to pursue higher education and all of the benefits that goes with it. Having more higher educational opportunities in the county along with an extremely strong public school system makes this an even more attractive place for families and businesses to move,” said Rogers Anderson, county mayor for Williamson County.

“This non-traditional, state-of-the-art campus in the heart of the Cool Springs business community will offer flexibility and convenience for those who need to pursue a degree program around a work schedule as well as an environment that will spark creative thinking for community and corporate groups using the facility. This is yet another example of how Lipscomb University is creating opportunities to serve the community,” said Cindi Parmenter, president of the Brentwood Cool Springs Chamber of Commerce.

The academic programming to be offered at Spark includes degree work from several colleges and institutes at the university. Most of those classes will take place in the evenings and on weekends. When the space is not being used for academics—primarily during the daytime—it will be open to businesses and organizations looking for off-site options for meetings and other events. Construction on Spark will begin in the next few weeks with anticipated completion in the spring.

Lipscomb’s new facility will be a multi-purpose space providing the physical capability to accommodate various learning needs. It will consist of three learning spaces, each accommodating 24 to 36 participants depending on group size needed. Walls may also be reconfigured to create one large space. The result is a flexible space for event and academic activities that can quickly accommodate a need as small as one-on-one meetings or as large as a 125-person lecture. Additional spaces include a catering kitchen, a workspace area, a video conferencing room and two conference rooms along with a pre-function entry space that can be branded to participant use and is designed to hospitably welcome students, professionals and visitors.
