Volunteers Needed for Franklin Civil War Days

The Heritage Foundation is again heading up the covered dish dinner for 400 Civil War re-enactors. We need help making casseroles in advance and serving at the event:

The Civil War re-enactors are both local citizens and others that travel a great distance to participate in Franklin’s Civil War days which will be at The Park at Harlinsdale Farm on October 14-15. We want to make all the re-enactors feel very welcome and appreciated, and that is where our wonderful Heritage Foundation members come in.

If you are interested in volunteering, please do the following:
1. Determine if you would like to volunteer. Read below for descriptions and times.
2. Select the volunteer area(s), day(s) and shift(s) that you would like to work.
3. Please email kwilliams@historicfranklin.com with the following information: Your name, Volunteer Area, Shift Time, phone number (cell phone if possible).
4. Please respond by Friday, October 7, 2011 at High Noon.
A Volunteer Schedule will be emailed to all volunteers.

1. FOOD DONATIONS: 40 volunteers needed to bake your favorite meat casserole recipe.
Instructions: If you reply yes to this, you will come by the Heritage Foundation office, pick up a foil casserole pan/lid, and fill with one of your favorite meat casserole recipes. We have simple recipes here at the office that you can use if you like. The food should be cooked and brought warm to The Factory of Franklin Marketplace in the rear of the Factory between 4:00 and 4:45 p.m. on Saturday, October 15th. If you can prepare the dish but not deliver it, call Bob Rudman at 476-9102 or Missy Rudman at 591-5891.

2. ON-SITE DINNER VOLUNTEERS
A. Set-up Team – 2:00-3:30 p.m. – 5 volunteers needed.
Set up tables, put table cloths and centerpieces on the tables, place chairs and set up buffet, do luminaries, etc.
B. Dinner Team – 4:00-7:00 p.m. – 15 volunteers needed
Help set up food and drinks and serve. Also keep area clean and organized.
C. Greeters – 4:30-6:30 p.m. – 6 volunteers needed
Greet and direct guests.

The Heritage Foundation and Downtown Franklin Association depend on our great volunteers to welcome the Civil War re-enactors. We appreciate your time and consideration!

Just outside Cool Springs, the red carpet will roll out on Downtown Franklin’s Main Street this Thursday, Oct. 6, for a 7:30 p.m. premier of the remake of the movie Footloose. Main Street in Downtown Franklin will close to vehicle traffic around 1 p.m. that day but remain open to pedestrian traffic throughout the event. Most of the red carpet activity will be happening between 6:30 – 7:00 p.m. While the premier at the Franklin Theatre is a closed event, the public is invited to come out and enjoy the red carpet and all the businesses and restaurants open on Main Street in Downtown Franklin.

The 2011 version Footloose is coming out with a new soundtrack feature 12 country artists, including Blake Shelton and Big & Rich, which is the reason for the Nashville premier. It stars Julianne Hough, Dennis Quaid and Andie McDowell.

Although the movie showing of Footloose is not open to the public, there are some fantastic movies showing at the Franklin Theatre in October, including Midnight in Paris and The Help.

Harpeth River Watershed “River Swing”

The  Harpeth River Watershed Association’s “River Swing” is Oct. 1 near Cool Springs at the Pontotoc Farm, home of Hank & Mary Brockman in Franklin, TN.

This event features The Entice Band, showcasing old school funk and music that is sure to make you dance.  River friendly attire is suggested as the party is outside, it is recommend you dress comfortable and casual.

Locally grown and organic dinner has been generously underwritten by the McEwen Whole Foods Market in Franklin.  Beer, wine and spirits donated by Lipman Brothers.  Whole Foods McEwen and Waste Management will handle recycling and composting for the event just outside Cool Springs.

Tickets are $125 ($100 if purchased before Sept. 9)

22nd Annual Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee

The 22nd annual Bicycle Ride Across Tennessee (BRAT 2011) is being held this year Sept. 11 – 17. The seven day ride is planned to start at Montgomery Bell State Park and will feature a combination of valleys, rolling hills and a bit of flat terrain.

The bicycle tour will include a balance of several long distance rides and a few short distance days.  This design helps to challenge Cool Springs expert cyclists, while accommodating beginner and recreational riders.

Bicycle riders will camp overnight at four different Tennessee State Parks along the planned route, including David Crockett, Henry Horton, Montgomery Bell, and Paris Landing.  The City of Clarksville Tennessee will host one overnight stay at Swan Lake Park. One layover day is planned at Montgomery Bell State Park, giving Cool Springs cyclists an opportunity to sight see the beautiful surroundings, including nature hikes and canoeing.

New for 2011 is a three day ride choice for cyclists who aren’t ready for a weeklong tour or have limited vacation time. Daily mileage ranges from 84 miles on the initial and longest leg of the route to 52 miles on the last and final day.

Friends of Warner Parks announces the fifth Full Moon Pickin’ Party of 2011 on Friday, September 9th. This fundraiser features Middle Tennessee’s finest bluegrass music. All of the monies raised from this laid-back affair will go directly back into the Parks to mitigate flood damage in the parks and to ensure preservation, protection, and funding for educational programs and special projects including camp-outs for inner city kids.

Musicians and music fans alike are invited to the Steeplechase Barn at the Equestrian Center (2500 Old Hickory Blvd.) in Percy Warner Park on September 9th for great bluegrass music.

Join Spring Hill Kiwanis for a scenic ride through the beautiful Spring Hill, TN countryside just south of Cool Springs on Saturday, August 27th from 7am – 1pm.

Proceeds from this charity bike ride will help fund the The Well Outreach Food Pantry and Imagination Library. The Imagination Library provides every child in Spring Hill, from birth to five years of age, with an age appropriate book in the mail each month. The Well Outreach Food Pantry provides emergency food assistance to families in need from Spring Hill, Thompson’s Station, and College Grove.

Different routes of 20, 43, and 64 miles planned for all bike riders from beginners to experts from Cool Springs.

The cost this year is $35.00, and includes a tee shirt, breakfast, snacks at the rest stops and lunch.
