The Midwest’s premier bluegrass band, Monroe Crossing, comes to Franklin on January 25 at 7 p.m. with Grassland’s own Bethlehem Bluegrass Band, the opening act while premiering songs from their first CD at Bethlehem United Methodist Church off Hillsboro Road in Franklin.
Harry Robinson, Bethlehem Bluegrass band leader and BUMC Music and Arts Director, said the event will be a magical night of music which the community won’t want to miss and is thrilled to be offering the Bethlehem band’s first ever bluegrass and gospel CD.
“For years our fans have asked for a Bethlehem Bluegrass CD and we are thrilled to be making this available to the public at the January 25 concert at a cost of $15. We have already experienced brisk sales within the Bethlehem community and are looking forward to introducing this new work to the public while opening up for the exciting Monroe Crossing Band,” Robinson said. “The CD has favorites from “Seven Sundays In A Row” to the beloved “I Know Who Holds Tomorrow” with a rich tapestry of music from the multi-talented, eight-person band.”
Named in honor of the legendary Bill Monroe, Monroe Crossing plays an upbeat blend of classic and traditional music. They are such a dynamic stage show for the warmth and humor they share along with their amazing music Robinson said. The only bluegrass band ever nominated as “Artist of the Year” (2004) by the Minnesota Music Academy, Monroe Crossing won the MMA’s “Bluegrass Album of the Year” award in 2003 and was inducted into the Minnesota Music Hall of Fame in November. They were a 2007 showcase band for the International Bluegrass Music Association Convention. In 2010, they were featured in Bluegrass Music Profiles magazine (March/April), and in the July issue of Bluegrass Unlimited magazine. Monroe Crossing also graced the covers of Inside Bluegrass magazine (July) and the Bluegrass Music Association of Central Canada magazine (July/August).
The concert begins at 7 p.m. in the sanctuary of Bethlehem UMC, 2419 Bethlehem Loop Road off Old Hillsboro Road in the Grassland area of Franklin with tickets $10 per person at the door.
