ScoreCon 3 Video Game Convention

ScoreCon 3 Video Game Convention

Nashville’s annual video game convention returns: ScoreCon 3 set for April 27-28 at the Drury Plaza Hotel in Cool Springs.

Video game retail and entertainment startup The Score, based in Franklin, is bringing a variety of video game industry talent alongside big “Tennessee State Championship” video game tournaments to the Cool Springs area late in April.

“ScoreCon 3,” billed as the “ultimate gamer event,” marks the third year The Score has operated this all-ages annual event, and the first year for the convention to take place one exit down from the Cool Springs Galleria.

Featured guests include longtime video game voice actors Dave Fennoy and Gavin Hammon, who reprised the roles of “Lee” and “Kenny” in the critically-acclaimed “Walking Dead” video game, alongside Austin Wintory, composer of the Grammy-nominated soundtrack for PS3-exclusive masterpiece “Journey.”

Erik Huey, Senior Vice President of the Entertainment Software Association, takes the stage as well to discuss the state of the industry and the role he plays within Washington DC educating lawmakers on sound policy.

A number of software developers from the Southeast join a software development panel – perfect for young gamers contemplating making their own game at some point down the line. Big tournaments in Halo 4 and Super Smash Bros, along with the 2013 Video Game Olympics event spread across Saturday and Sunday, punctuate a strong programming lineup for the local event.

“We’re excited to deliver an event of this caliber for the city of Nashville,” Score Founder Bradley Metrock told CoolSprings.com in an exclusive interview. “Cool Springs is the perfect location for Nashville’s video game convention to continue to grow. For gamers, and families with gamers, this is a great way to spend a weekend.”

For more information on ScoreCon 3, go to www.ScoreCon3.com or check out the “strategy guide” for ScoreCon 3 which gives full details on the convention’s programming lineup. One-day passes ($29) and two-day passes ($39) for the event are still available online, in-store at The Score of Cool Springs, and are expected to be available (cash-only) at the door.

National Disaster Preparedness Month

Disaster Survival Resources, a leading online resource for information about emergency preparedness and natural disasters, has embarked on a marketing campaign to remind people about National Disaster Preparedness Month. The awareness campaign has been developed by the United States government, and it is in effect throughout the month of September. The organization is raising awareness about the campaign through its website and through various other forms of media. “Our top priority is to educate people about the importance of being prepared for natural disasters,” says one representative. “From having an emergency plan to having a kit ready to go, there’s a lot you can do.”

The month-long campaign promotes four major components of being prepared for a disaster: making a kit, having a plan, being informed and getting involved. In-depth information about making a kit is available through the Disaster Survival Resources website, which is also a repository of many other resources regarding emergency preparedness. “People often downplay the importance of having an emergency plan in place,” says the representative. “Creating a plan is easy. Making sure that everyone is aware of it is too. The hard part is actually making it happen.”

As a part of the campaign, citizens are encouraged to stay as informed as possible in the event of a disaster. The CDC website advises people to turn to as many forms of media as possible. “If the power goes out, access to the TV and radio may be limited,” says the representative. “However, access to the Internet through mobile devices may still be possible. The trick is to try to get information from as many sources as possible.” Many other suggestions are offered through the organization’s website as well, and people are encouraged to learn how to be as prepared as possible.

The national campaign also encourages people to get involved in emergency preparedness efforts. One way to be involved is by checking to see if a child’s school has an emergency plan in place. The same thing can be done with a workplace. “As noted on the CDC website, Homeland Security also runs the Ready America campaign, which makes it easy for people to get involved,” adds the representative. “There are countless ways to get involved in these efforts. Doing something as simple as supporting local first responders can go a really long way.” The campaign runs through the end of September. Go to www.disaster-survival-resources.com for more information in getting you and your family prepared.

First Fashion’s Night out at Cool Springs Galleria

Cool Springs Galleria

Since its 2009 genesis in New York by Vogue editor-in-chief Anna Wintour and Diane von Furstenburg, president of the Council of Fashion Designers of America (CFDA), Fashion’s Night Out has grown to be represented in all 50 states as well as over 20 other countries.

On Thursday, September 6, 2012 from 6 pm to 9 pm, Cool Springs Galleria invites shoppers to take part in an evening of fashion and represent Tennessee in this unprecedented global party. Although the venue for the party is a familiar one, the line-up of events occurring both in and out of stores is sure to provide an evening at the mall unlike any other. Select stores will feature unique events, food, and promotions throughout the evening.

“This celebration is not only about all things fashion; it is also about giving back to local causes while doing something we all love – shopping!” exclaimed Dana Katterjohn, Regional Marketing Director for CBL & Associates Properties. The original Fashion’s Night Out in New York supports the NYC AIDS Fund each year with a portion of profits made and through special night-of events that directly donate funds to the cause.

Shoppers at CoolSprings Galleria will be invited to support several local organizations, including Komen Nashville, which will offer a chance to win a $50 Wacoal bra, the YMCA After Breast Cancer Program who will have information about the Heroes in Heels Fashion Show at CoolSprings Galleria on September 11, and Team in Training/Lukemia and Lymphoma Society which will offer a prize wheel and a silent auction throughout the evening.

Shoppers will also enjoy live entertainment from Nashville favorite Preston Leatherman from 6-7pm in Center Court. Following the show, Dillard’s will offer a Fall Fashion Preview on the main stage in center court at 7pm. Other stores offering in-store events include Belk, Coldwater Creek, David Parker Shoes, Bare Escentuals, J.Crew, New York and Company and more. Finally, the first 50 shoppers at Guest Services when the event begins at 6pm will receive a free swag bag filled with goodies, coupons and possibly a Mall Gift Card worth up to $25 (some restrictions apply).

Video Game Convention “ScoreCon 2″

The Score of Cool Springs has announced an ambitious lineup of video-game-related daily events, tournaments, and sales for the entire summer, spanning May through August, for residents of Franklin and the greater Nashville area.

The Score’s “Summer Staycation 2012″ is the local business’ answer to rising gas prices and increased demand for family-oriented event programming.

One early highlight of the Staycation schedule is Nashville’s own video gaming convention, “ScoreCon 2.”  This event, billed as equal parts entertainment and education, features a variety of video game industry speakers, panels, and large video game tournaments with prizes for winners.  ScoreCon 2 will take place at Rocketown (in downtown Nashville) on Saturday, May 19 – regular admission passes are still available as of this writing, but VIP passes have already sold out.

“ScoreCon 2, and The Score’s Summer Staycation lineup as a whole, are the video game programming and fun people have come to expect from The Score,” founder Bradley Metrock said.  ”Over the summer, when we aren’t as busy with birthday parties and other private events, we wanted to provide Cool Springs with something to do on a daily basis.”

The Score is a video game retail and entertainment startup company based in Franklin, Tennessee.  The Score of Cool Springs, located at 4091 Mallory Lane (near the new Whole Foods), is rated #1 on Yelp for retail customer service and value, above all other retail businesses in Cool Springs or Franklin.  The store can be reached via email at Info@TheScoreOnline.com or by phone at (615) 807 0124.
